St Paul begins his most important epistle (to the Romans) with a very long sentence. Today's reading is translated as three sentences, but he managed all this thought in one. Its DEEP!
One thought: he is recreating for these first Christians a new cosmos where they find themselves and him, their apostle.
It is a world where the Holy Spirit and the Son and the Father have the first, highest place. Other powers and authorities have a place too, as well as all Christians.
We sorely need such an ordering today, though we hardly dare to imagine or describe it.
Nevertheless, it is real for us -- St Paul's cosmos. We live in it by our daily prayer in solitude and in community.
It is a wonderful place to live. It is the green pasture and the banquet table of Psalm 22.

I love to write. This blog helps me to meditate on the Word of God, and I hope to make some contribution to our contemplations of God's Mighty Works.
Ordinarily, I write these reflections two or three weeks in advance of their publication. I do not intend to comment on current events.
I understand many people prefer gender-neutral references to "God." I don't disagree with them but find that language impersonal, unappealing and tasteless. When I refer to "God" I think of the One whom Jesus called "Abba" and "Father", and I would not attempt to improve on Jesus' language.
You're welcome to add a thought or raise a question.
