Once in a while someone will hand you a photograph and you
recognize yourself. But it’s not the image you have of yourself; and in a
startled flash you see yourself as others see you.
Perhaps you had that experience as you read this third
paragraph from John 17, Jesus ’ prayer.
Father, they are your gift to me.
I wish that where I am they also may be with me,
that they may see my glory that you gave me,
I wish that where I am they also may be with me,
that they may see my glory that you gave me,
You are a gift from God the Father to God the Son. He has
accepted this gift for its own worth and because he loves His Father so much. You
are a gift Jesus will always treasure and will
never lose. He is delighted to receive such a gift; it is worth everything to
him.

I love to write. This blog helps me to meditate on the Word of God, and I hope to make some contribution to our contemplations of God's Mighty Works.
Ordinarily, I write these reflections two or three weeks in advance of their publication. I do not intend to comment on current events.
I understand many people prefer gender-neutral references to "God." I don't disagree with them but find that language impersonal, unappealing and tasteless. When I refer to "God" I think of the One whom Jesus called "Abba" and "Father", and I would not attempt to improve on Jesus' language.
